As the demand for advanced, efficient, and reliable backfilling systems grows in the mining and tunnelling sectors, MCT Marcantonini’s cutting-edge technology is now accessible through Quadra South Africa – proudly announced ahead of Big 5 Construct South Africa 2025. MCT Marcantonini, a globally recognised leader in concrete batching systems, brings to market a comprehensive, customisable backfilling solution designed to meet the challenges of underground construction.
From 18 to 20 June 2025, visit MCT Marcantonini at Stand 202 at Gallagher Estate, where they will showcase this innovative technology alongside Quadra South Africa, Quadra Concrete France, ROTHO, and ASSYX.

Engineered for Precision in Mining & Tunnelling
Backfilling plays a critical role in the tunnelling process, particularly when using TBM (Tunnel Boring Machines) in complex geological conditions. MCT Marcantonini’s backfilling systems offer fully integrated solutions for the production, storage, transfer, and injection of bi-component mixtures – typically composed of water, bentonite, cement, retarder, and accelerator additives.
What sets MCT apart is its focus on customisation: from high-capacity mixing plants (up to 50 m³/h) to containerised skid-mounted units, every component is tailored to site-specific logistics and tunnel profiles.
Seamless Integration from Mixing to Injection
MCT’s backfilling process begins with the precision preparation of the mixture using automated high-performance mixing sets. These are supported by large-capacity silos, screw conveyors, and dosing systems that ensure consistent quality.
Once prepared, the mix is stored in agitated tanks that prevent separation and maintain continuous availability for TBM feeding. Transferring is handled by powerful pumps capable of 230 bar pressure and 170 l/min flow rate—ensuring reliability even across long, pressurised tunnel networks.
At the tunnel face, compact grouting pumps (DP/OL4 and ID/OL2 models) ensure precise, low- or high-pressure injection behind the concrete segment linings. These systems are fine-tuned with electro-controlled valves to manage exact flow and pressure requirements.
Advanced Monitoring for Operational Confidence
What truly future-proofs MCT Marcantonini’s backfilling technology is its digital backbone. All systems are integrated into a centralised, remote-access data monitoring platform. From grouting pressure and volume to additive dosing and mixing cycles, project managers gain real-time insight and control—improving productivity, reducing downtime, and ensuring safety compliance.
